XPRIZE

XPRIZE and Life Sciences

Life Sciences is one of five XPRIZE Prize Groups; it focuses on the design and management of incentivized prize competitions that stimulate breakthroughs in molecular biology, stem cell research, bionics, organogenesis, synthetic biology and artificial intelligence in order to improve health care and extend healthy living worldwide.

Two current Life Science prizes include:

Inspired by the technology of Star Trek, The Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE (www.qualcommtricorderxprize.org)  is a $10 million global competition designed to stimulate innovation in precision diagnostic technologies, making health diagnoses directly available to people, all in the palm of their hands.

The winning team will create a hand-held portable device capable of capturing key health metrics and diagnosing a set of 15 diseases within minutes by collecting a large volume of health data through a combination of wireless sensors, imaging technologies and portable, non-invasive laboratory replacements.

The Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE ( www.nokiasensingxchallenge.org ) is a $2.25 million global competition to accelerate the availability of hardware sensors and software sensing technologies that individuals can use to collect, measure and communicate their personal health information to their physician from wherever they are.

About XPRIZE

XPRIZE (www.xprize.org)  is the global leader in the creation of incentivized prize competitions. Our mission is to bring about radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity, thereby inspiring the formation of new industries and the revitalization of markets. An XPRIZE is a large-scale, monetary award given to the first team to achieve a specific goal, set by XPRIZE, which has the potential to positively impact humanity. So rather than awarding money to honor past achievements or directly funding research, an XPRIZE incites innovation by tapping into our competitive and entrepreneurial spirit.
