Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Jeanne Magram, Site Head of The Center for Therapeutic Innovation, Pfizer

Launched in 2010, Pfizer’s Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) is a unique model for academic-industry collaboration, designed to bridge the gap between early scientific discovery and its translation into new medicines. A key aspect of CTI is its local Centers in biomedical research hubs that enable Pfizer and academic teams to work side-by-side, blending the research expertise of academics in disease biology, targets, and patient populations with Pfizer’s developmental expertise and resources.

Jeanne Magram Short Bio:

Before becoming Site head of CTI, Jeanne was Vice President of Immunology and Inflammation at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, overseeing a department committed to drug discovery that addresses unmet medical needs in autoimmune disease and delivered candidates into clinical testing.  Jeanne received her PhD in Biology from Columbia University and Post doctoral training in Biology from the University of California

THE NEXT FRONTIER IN DRUG DELIVERY — CROSSING THE BLOOD BRAIN BARRIER

Drug delivery to the brain is current hot topic for pharma, as pharma seeks methods to deliver proprietary drugs into the brain, reformulate drugs used for one indication for another and develop new therapeutics for unmet medical needs, especially for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson’s, HIV, Alzheimer’s, ALS, GBM, LSDs, MS, NPC, Autism, Huntington’s, Gaucher, other Rare Diseases, etc.).  Lauren Sciences LLC is developing the groundbreaking V-SmartTM platform technology invented in Israel — an innovative targeted drug delivery system comprised of novel nanovesicles that can encapsulate drugs, cross the blood brain barrier, target sites in the brain, selectively release at target sites and are administered systemically — and a pipeline of transformative V-SmartTM therapeutics for central nervous system, and other, diseases.  Since founded 3 years ago in New York, Lauren Sciences LLC has been awarded 4 foundation grants, invited to present V-SmartTM research at 5 scientific conferences and featured in 2 industry research reports, has established a patent estate of 14 patent families and had 16 papers on V-SmartTM technology published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The company is currently under contract with pharma, and institutions, for V-SmartTM pilot projects. Susan Rosenbaum, J.D., Founder, Chairman and CEO of Lauren Sciences LLC will present.

Presenting Company:

Gerard Honig, Symbiotic Health

Symbiotic Health is a New York-based startup dedicated to using the power of microbial communities to address pressing challenges in infectious disease. We all harbor a diverse community of bacteria in our digestive system:  the gut microbiome. A balanced microbiome is critical for us to resist invading pathogens. Routine medical intervention, especially antibiotic administration, injures the microbiome, favoring the emergence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens that thrive in this altered ecosystem. Symbiotic Health’s goal is to prevent and treat antibiotic-resistant infections by detecting and reversing microbiome injury. Our prototype is a therapeutic for Clostridium difficile infection, which causes severe diarrhea in over 250,000 US hospital patients each year. Our cost-effective microbiome-based capsule therapeutic is convenient for the provider, comfortable for the patient and highly effective for recurrent Clostridium difficile diarrhea in initial clinical assessment.
